Overview of a fracture

A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone. An open fracture (also called compound fracture) is when the bone pokes through the skin and can be seen or when a deep wound exposes the bone through the skin. A closed fracture (also called simple fracture) is when the bone is broken, but the skin is intact.
